Sleepy Haze

Updated: 6 days ago

As I lay beside him in a sleepy haze, he wraps his little arm and leg around me, pulling me in closer.

“Mummy, sing me a song,” he whispers.

I brush the curls from his eyes, my fingers trailing through his soft hair. A quiet sigh escapes my lips as I glance at the time. Silence lingers between us. I think of how many nights I’ve sung to him, how many times my voice has cradled him into sleep. But tonight, the weight of all that’s waiting for me pulls at my mind.

Emails to send, blogs to write, tweets to post, pins to add. The list hums through my thoughts - dishes in the sink, packed lunches to prepare, washing to be hung. Another long night awaits

He’s taken over my evenings, my stolen moments of quiet. Once, Rio was in the spotlight, filling my nights with melodies that wove through the air. Now, my guitar rests in its case, gathering dust, while the rhythmic tapping of the keyboard keeps me company.

And then there’s my beautiful girl, patiently waiting for me next door, hoping I’ll guide her into a dreamland of unicorns, fairies, and rainbows. Her twin brother, ever content, will settle for a kiss goodnight.

For a moment, I linger here, caught between the world that needs me and the one right in front of me.
